I’ve tried just about every brand of hiking socks on the market and have always gotten blisters. I used to think it was my foot anatomy or shoe selection until I got myself a pair of Darn Tough hiking socks. Now, no matter what shoes I’m wearing, I never get blisters as long as I have my Darn Tough socks on.
My favorite styles for general hiking/ canyoneering are the Micro Crew midweight and lightweight hiking socks. The thickness I use depends on the weather andthe shoe size I’m wearing. They fit perfectly and stay in place all day, providing plenty of cushioning underfoot without being slippery or bulky and thinner material on top to keep you cool. With a seamless toe box and extra padding at the Achilles, you’re sure to be comfortable and chafe-free. The merino wool is soft against the skin and keeps your feet dry while still being breathable.
My other favorite style is their Hiker Boot sock. It comes in a regular midweight and full cushion boot sock. The midweight boot socks fit much like the MicroCrew midweight with extra shaft height to accommodate taller hiking boots. The full cushion boot sock is my go-to for longer or more weighted backpacking trips in colder climates. The extra cushion on top of the foot protects it against chaffing and strain on the top of the foot while also providing more warmth without adding excessive bulk.
Perhaps the best feature of Darn Tough socks is that they truly are darn tough! I have had the same few pairs for years and they show no signs of wearing down. They’ve taken hits from miles of hiking, scraping on sandstone, piles of sand in my shoes, sharp sticks and rocks, and just about anything I can throw at them and they still outperform every other sock I own. They even come with an unconditional lifetime guarantee. If you hate them or somehow manage to get a hole in them they’ll replace them for free.
