Embarking on the journey to conquer Kilimanjaro is an adventure that’s far from pristine. Picture this: you navigate through a lush rainforest, where the air is thick with humidity, and your sweat becomes your constant companion. As you ascend further, you transition into the arid heather/moorland region where your perspiration persists, only now accompanied by a layer of clinging dust.
After a span of multiple days immersed in this rugged terrain, it’s safe to say you won’t be feeling your freshest. That’s where our savvy advice comes in: pack along some trusty wipes and a compact towel. These little essentials will be your saving grace, allowing you to bid farewell to the day’s grime and embrace the comfort of cleanliness each night.
However, there is a fairly new product on the market that we have tried in the backcountry and were impressed. It is the Scrubzz Rinse Free Bath Sponge. In this article, we are going to give our review of how well it works.

Our Review
The previous content might have been a touch excessive in its attempt to promote the product. We’ve toned down the capitalization while keeping the exclamation points…
Nonetheless, setting aside the slightly exaggerated late-night infomercial flair that the above passage might have exuded, it’s important to note that this product is actually quite impressive.
Our team put the Scrubzz Rinse Free Bath Sponge to the test during a multi-day expedition in the remote backcountry of Utah. Engaged in the challenging pursuit of navigating slot canyons—many of which contained stagnant water that necessitated swimming through—we inevitably found ourselves, by day’s end, emitting a rather unpleasant aroma.
To stay relatively clean we packed a solar shower and the Scrubzz No Rinse Bathing Sponge. After giving the Sponge a shot just once, we were hooked. It had a pleasing aroma and the effortless application won us over. All it required was a small amount of water. This was a far more sensible choice than tapping into our limited drinking water reserves for a shower, considering we were a distant 70 miles away from civilization. With a mere splash of water onto the center of the wipe, a foamy lather magically appeared. We wadded the sponge to ensure complete saturation, initiating the cleansing ritual.
As someone with rather sensitive skin, I was relieved to discover that it didn’t cause any discomfort whatsoever. Notably, these wipes proved remarkably durable; they remained intact even when used over beard stubble.
We recommend keeping a small towel within reach, tackling one section at a time, and promptly wiping with a dry towel to eliminate any residual traces. Following this approach, we experienced no accumulation of residue.
For four consecutive days, these wipes faithfully served us, consistently leaving our skin feeling rejuvenated and invigoratingly clean.
We haven’t tried them on Kilimanjaro yet. But we are pretty sure they will work just fine. We recommend bringing two gallon-size Ziploc bags one with a Sponge for each day and one to discard the used ones in so you can take them with you off the mountain. They are not biodegradable and should not be dropped into the composting toilets, long-drop toilets, or private toilets.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, if you decide to take the Scrubzz Rinse Free Bath Sponge on your Kilimanjaro Climb, let us know how it worked for you. As with any new product try it before you head to Kilimanjaro. Make sure you do not have any adverse reaction to it.
