5-day Safari

F or the 5-Day Safari you’ll visit the action-packed Tarangire National Park which is known for its large herds of elephants. If you are lucky, you may also spot the elusive tree-climbing lions. One day two we will take you to the tiny Lake Manyara National Park which encircles the lake and is a wonderland of birds. On days three and four, you’ll make the long trek through the crown jewel of safari parks the Serengeti. Along the way, you’ll be able to see the herds of all types of animals. There will be gazelles, impalas, giraffes, elephants, and wildebeest. In the trees, leopards will be dining on their prey. Hyena, lions, and vultures will battle over a meal of gazelles and the water will be filled with deadly predators like crocodiles and hippos. On day five you’ll descend the stunning Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. It is an 11-mile across, 2,000 foot deep extinct volcanic crater that is home to all the same animals as the Serengeti. You’ll spend the day being entertained by the mating ostrich, stalking hippos, and lazy lions.

Day 1

Monkey

Day one, you’ll wake, eat breakfast, and begin your safari adventure by visiting Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is known for its vast herds of elephants. It is estimated that there are over 2,500 elephants in the park. It is a very large park with many animals to view as you weave your way around the Tarangire River that runs through the center of the park.

Day 2

Cheetah

Day two, our guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you a few hours to Lake Manyara National Park. Although small in size, this park is one of the most diverse animal preserves in the country. The lake itself covers more than two-thirds of the park. The park falls in the shadow of the end of the Great Rift Valley.

You’ll start the drive in the dense forests with monkeys, elephants, and baboons surrounding your vehicle. As you continue you’ll drive through the grasslands as giraffes, wildebeest, and zebra graze alongside each other.  The lake is surrounded by mudflats that team with water buffalo and birds. You’ll stop for lunch along the way with views of the highlands, hot springs, and forests. Lake Manyara National Park is a birding paradise that has more than 350 species of bird. The park has also had a few sightings of the elusive tree-climbing lions. Our guide will drive you to our tented camp for the night.

Day 3

Hippo

Day three, we will drive from your tented camp near Lake Manyara to the magnificent Serengeti National Park. The word ‘Serengeti’ means ‘endless plains’, which describes the park’s 5,600 square mile boundary. Even though it is quite large, the game drive doesn’t disappoint. The driver will be on the radio to find out where all the animals are active. The Serengeti is arguably the best safari park in the world and has vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and giraffes. Every year these herds migrate from the central Serengeti to Kenya’s Masai Mara and back again in an incredible spectacle. Millions of animals make up the herd. Not only are the herd animals readily visible, but there are also elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetah, hyenas, hippos, and jackals. After a long day of animal viewing, we will drive you to your tented camp for the night.

Day 4

Lion

Today, you’ll embark on an encore game drive spending as much time as you like viewing all the wildlife the Serengeti has to offer. After that, you’ll make your way back across the plains to your tented camp near the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.

Day 5

Elephant

Finally, we will pick you up around 7 AM on the final day. We will drive you to the Ngorongoro Crater as early as possible to see the animals in the early morning when they are the most active. A good amount of time to stay there is about six hours. Since the Crater is only 11 miles across and you’ll get plenty of viewing time in that amount of time. We will drive you back to Arusha in the afternoon. However, with prior arrangements, our guide can take you straight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

* Clients can make flights departing after 8:00 pm from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
