Oldest Person to Climb Kilimanjaro
Anne Lorimor, an 89-year-old great-grandmother from Arizona, made history as the oldest person to climb Kilimanjaro. Lorimor had previously climbed Kilimanjaro in July 2015, becoming the oldest woman to summit the Roof of Africa at the age of 85.
However, her record was short-lived as another avid hiker, Angela Vorobeva, summited Kilimanjaro in October 2015 at the age of 86 years and 267 days.
Dr. Fred Distelhorst then broke the record in 2017, becoming the oldest person to climb Kilimanjaro at the age of 88.
Undeterred by these octogenarian record-setters, Lorimor set her sights on another summit climb in 2019. She embarked on her journey from Paradise Valley, Arizona, to Tanzania earlier that year and successfully reached the summit of Uhuru Peak on the morning of July 18th, 2019.
